My Favorite Garages (Yes, You Read That Right!)

I know that sounds goofy, but it’s true. Ever since I started designing for California Closets, I’ve had my eyes opened to other spaces that can be beautifully designed. I’ll probably talk about some of my favorite pantries, offices and media centers one of these days, but today it’s all about garages.

Let’s face it, we’re all confronted with a lot of ‘stuff’ that we have to store in our garages besides our cars. Hopefully we’re able to even get our cars in the garage, right?  I love to see a well-organized garage, and even more, to have everything tucked out of sight so it’s not staring you in the face. I’ve designed quite a few garages and while the composition of the design isn’t particularly difficult (most of the time it’s large cabinets, work countertops, and hanging storage on the walls for bikes, tools, etc.), the prep work that goes into designing a garage is quite extensive because of all the obstacles we have to design around. Things like outlets everywhere, often water heaters and/or sprinkler controls, sometimes garbage cans, electrical panels, bumped out concrete foundations, and so on. It can be a challenge but it is fun to see it come together.

Even more so when the materials go beyond the classic white or gray. Here are a few of my favorites lately (full disclosure – I didn’t design these particular ones, so kudos to the California Closets designers who did!)

Proof your garage doesn’t have to be boring!

Thanks for reading – stay safe!
