As promised, here is the next installment in my series of inexpensive ways to update your wardrobe.
Get a New ‘Do
This may sound scary, especially if you’ve been wearing the same hairstyle for years. Take a ‘baby step’ and make an appointment for a consultation at a new salon. Try one that’s totally different from your usual – maybe one with loud music or funky art on the walls. Stay open to new ideas and just listen to what they recommend. You may find something that’s surprisingly appealing. Whether you do it on the spot, or take it back to your regular stylist to do, a new, fresh hairdo can instantly update your look.
Style Some New Shades
A pair of trendy, funky, artsy sunglasses can be just what you need for a quick updated look. Be on the lookout at street fairs, junior departments, boutiques or discount outlets. (I’m loving the mirrored aviators that are so popular right now!)
Pop on a New Lip Color
We all get in a rut when it comes to our lipsticks. (Don’t you have several tubes of almost identical shades in your makeup drawer right now? Don’t lie!) Go to a cosmetic counter and play around with new colors. If you need encouragement, read this blogpost from my colleague, Brenda Kinsel, who recently fell in love with a totally unexpected color.
Try a Hair Accessory
There are lots of cute inexpensive headbands, clips, scarves and pins that can add sparkle or pattern in an unexpected way. Again, don’t be afraid to experiment. Once you start hearing the compliments, it’ll be a huge confidence-booster.
