Part of having a workable, always functional wardrobe is taking care of everything in your closet. Sometimes we let things go just a little too long and then are scrambling for a quick fix. Here are a few of my favorite wardrobe TLC tips – maybe they’ll become favorites of yours too.
Clothes steamer
Oh how I love my Rowenta steamer! Since I got it many years ago, I’m able to keep most all my clothes wrinkle-free and only very rarely have to drag out an iron and ironing board. Wrinkles are one of the dead giveaways of clothes that are ill-cared-for – they make you look sloppy and careless. (Maybe that’s one of the reasons why I rarely wear linen. It’s supposed to wrinkle and we’re supposed to be okay with it, but I really have a hard time dealing with it.) Mine sits in the corner of my office, plugged in and ready to use at a moment’s notice. I can’t recommend it highly enough (I got my at Bed Bath Beyond, but you can also find them at Target and Amazon.)
Lint roller
Okay – this seems like a no-brainer, right? But I’m talking about keeping a lint roller everywhere – the glove box of your car, in a cabinet or drawer near the door you leave from most frequently in your home, in your travel kit. This is especially true if you have a pet of your own (always check yourself before you leave the house) but can also be very helpful when you’re leaving a friend’s pet-friendly home. You’ll be glad you have that roller in the car!
Needle threader
This has become especially more valuable to me over the years, as my eyesight isn’t as good as it once was. Even with my glasses on, it’s just so darned hard to get that thread through the eye of the needle. It seems there’s always a button needing tightening up, or even a seam that needs just a bit of reinforcement, or a hem threatening to let loose. If you have a needle threader you’ll be able to deal with the situation so much more easily. There are fancy ones out there, but this basic one from JoAnn Fabrics will do the trick just fine.
We all like a little TLC, even our wardrobe. Thanks for reading!
