Happiness…Today

I don’t know about you, but with the current stay-in-place situation that we are in, I’m on the lookout for anything to bring a little bit of joy and lightness into the days. I realize that I’m one of the fortunate ones (so far), in that no one close to me has been infected with the virus, and we are able to work from home with no issues. Even with that enormous grace, I still look for something to offset the mostly-negative news that we face every day. And there is plenty out there to cheer us up! Here are a few of my favorites, starting with:

New Yorkers, and their immense spirit – like when they let loose at 7 p.m. every day to thank the many tireless, courageous essential workers:

If you haven’t yet seen John Krasinski and his “Some Good News” videos on YouTube, you’re in for a treat. (Grab a cup of coffee, or glass of wine, depending on when you’re reading this, and enjoy – they’re about 20 minutes long.)

I’m a little video-heavy in this post, but it’s all such good stuff I just have to share. Since we’re all mostly working from home and using video platforms to communicate, I found the tips in this video from “Hot and Flashy” on how to look your best on a Zoom call to be very helpful. (I really love all of her videos – she has great tips for those of us ‘of a certain age’.)

I’ve been buying bunches of bananas and then letting them over-ripen so I can make banana bread. It’s such a (rich, caloric) treat for breakfast! I’ll probably stop this once we’re back out-and-about because they are so caloric, but for now it makes me happy during morning coffee.

Every day our little-old-man puppy, Bucky, makes me happy because I know our days are probably limited with him. No specific issues – it’s that he’s 16 years old, and has trouble getting around, can’t see or hear very well, and has wonky back legs where he falls down very easily. I love looking at his sweet face when he’s laying in his bed.

What is making you happy in these times?

Thanks for reading – stay safe!
