Full disclosure – this was written about two months ago – and then I had website issues. All is good now but I decided to go ahead and post this anyway, even though it’s out of date since we’re officially into Fall. It’s all still true!
Bruises Out of Nowhere!
I’m not sure when this started but I think it’s fairly recently. All of a sudden I’ve got a random bruise on my arm or leg or wherever and have absolutely NO idea where it came from. Some of these are real beauties too, so it’s hard to fathom I can’t remember when or how I got them. Nonetheless, it is true. Just another one of those things about aging no one really prepares you for. The one below has hung around for weeks!
New Animal Friends
I’ve missed our puppy terribly since we lost him last August (can’t believe it’s already almost been a year.) But I can take solace that I’ve got a few new little ‘friends’ that stop by. First is the Gekko lizard that occasionally shows up on our back porch (of course, I’m not sure it’s the same exact gekko every time, but I like to think that it is.) I was concerned for him for a few days because he seemed to be ‘frozen’ in one place in the curtains on our deck, probably out of fear of us every time we showed up. But one day, from inside the door, I saw him carefully crawl down the curtain, looking around furtively, and then finally slip under the crack in the door to the freedom of the outdoors. They really are quite cute little critters.
When we were at the beach at the Outer Banks recently, where I liked to read on the balcony every morning, a dragonfly kept visiting me. Honestly I don’t think I’ve seen a dragonfly in years…maybe decades…so it was really a treat for me, especially when he kept landing on my book. He even sat still long enough for me to snap a picture…
Speaking of Books
I just love when I stumble across an author I haven’t read before, and love the writing so much that I have to immediately put the rest of the books on my waitlist at the library. The author is Jane Casey, and she writes murder mysteries set in England with heroine detective Maeve Kerrigan. You don’t necessarily have to read them in order – I didn’t – but if you want to, here’s the list in order:
The first I read was Cruel Acts, which is quite a ways down the list actually. But if you like murder mysteries, give these a try.
Beauty of the Beach
Since I mentioned the Outer Banks, I’ll share these three photos that show just how marvelous the beach can be from day to day. This isn’t really new news, but it’s always good to be reminded of how wonderful and mesmerizing nature is. We’ll be back out there in a few weeks with the family, so there are sure to be more where these came from.
Stay safe…thanks for reading!
