Favorite Things: For My Closet

Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved decorating. From the very first construction paper ‘books’ I made, filled with my favorite rooms cut out from magazines, through the various homes I’ve decorated through the years (I’m always a bit sad when a home is ‘finished’ because I love the process so much), up to the very moment when I started with California Closets and began to design closets for clients – I love it. As with clothing, it’s all in the details when it comes to closets.

For example, something as simple as a Garment Rod can make life so much easier. When it’s tucked away, it’s unobtrusive with the regular use of your closet. When it’s needed, as when I’m packing for a trip or putting away the dry cleaning, it’s invaluable. A simple detail that means less hassle. (Take a peek at this article on Martha Stewart and her closet – you’ll see a Garment Rod tucked away. If one of the gurus of organization can see the value in it, that’s saying something!)

And here’s another one that I didn’t realize I’d love so much – a slide-out belt rack. I’ve put these in closets for use by clients in organizing their belts or scarves, but I personally love it as a place to hang my cami’s (organized by color, of course!) I’m always wearing cami’s and it’s so helpful to have them at-hand when I need them, but tucked away when I don’t. Plus when hung up like this they don’t take up valuable drawer space.
